Notes From Around the Arena
August 6th - 12th , 2013
How I see it.
The State Championships went great.
We had visits from Clair & Tara's Clan: Aunt Joel and Cousin Anissa, and Chris and their adorable little boy, pitched a tent for a night. Uncle Nacho and Aunt Rachel came out for a day to cheer for Clair & Tara and their small herd.
From Sally's tribe came her daughters. First, MOB alumni, Caroline for a few days then she swapped with Katie who stayed for a few more. Somewhere in there Sally's brother came to support and cheer her on as well.
Members of the MOB made their appearance. Danielle and Nate with Olive and Luna camped overnight. Luna was great help with the horses, holding and grooming. Even Olive enjoyed the kids game for the non riders (just how many Balado Bucks did she end up with). Miss Judy arrived on Wednesday and stayed overnight and long into the next day cheering her support and taking notes for her debut ride in the state finals next year.
For the break down and packing up we had my husband Deryn and Maddy's Dad, Jimmy and her brother Tyler. So very helpful to have extra hands at the end of an exhausting week.
The Core:
Mark aka Clair's dad, was camp chef. We ate like there was no tomorrow. He made us breakfast daily, often before 7:00am. He fed us lunches and snacks throughout the day. And bestowed dinners fit for royalty nightly.
Jody aka Maddy's mi mi, was Marks right hand. Running snacks and drinks to the riders. Helping with the meals. Making peach cobblers. Picking up the endless piles of clothes we seemed to leave at the stalls, tack trailer, in the golf cart and all over camp. Rumor has it that Jody did more dishes last week then she would in a month at home.
Sally even though she was riding still managed to help with the meals and the mountains of dishes.
Jan pre organized wardrobe and saddle pad color, and rein color matching. She also organized the matching State show apparel with our names and our horses and divisions emblazoned on the sleeves.
Deryn put photos on the web site as he got them throughout the week, keeping our home team connected.
The Team:
Our team was great about helping each other out. Taking turns feeding/graining and cleaning stalls, Checking water. Holding horses for each other. Working together to minimize separation anxiety. Recognizing harm and keeping out of harms way. Cheering for great runs and supportive during the disappointments. The team work was very inspiring. It's nice to have a team that takes responsibility for themselves and goes the extra step to make it good for their team mates as well.
What a great week. Stay Cool.
Visit the web site to see all the winnings. More detail will be up by the end of the week.
