Notes From Around the Arena
July 15th - 22nd , 2013
How I see it.
Pharaoh is doing fine after his dehydration episode two weeks ago. For him it was a good thing that we always look at and evaluate the urine when the horses pee. To see that super dark orange-ish brown pee and then see the blood at the end of the stream was pretty startling. But Clair has been on it every day for the last two weeks, making sure he got his supplements and electrolytes. And making sure he took his Izmine to increase his desire to drink more water. Even with the increased training he seems to be doing great. Nice job!
Frenchie also showed mild dehydration when Judy did the pinch test and she also is doing just fine.
Danielle and Luna have been great, making sure the horses are getting everything they need to stay hydrated over the weekends while we are away. Thank you so much.
So the Firecracker Frenzy was at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds in Watsonville California, the weather was so nice. It may have gotten to 80, and in the morning there was a little misty drizzle. We blanketed the horses at night since at home the week before the nights didn't seem to get below 80.
Our group showed very well.
Judy and Frenchie did some shopping and got a new headstall and brestcollar and a saddle blanket all in matching turquoise very pretty on Frenchie. Judy and Frenchie made very clear they were more then just beautiful in fashion, the improved almost of their times some of them by as much 10 seconds. Very impressive.
Maddy did some accessory shopping as well getting Cowboy a really neat new halter it reminds me of something Roman or Greek, also some fancy new splint boots. Which he likes so much better then his old ones that he use to kick at, and run tentatively in. Cowboy and Maddy Placed 7th overall for the FC division winning a cool paint splatter print hay bag.
I am sure everyone did a little shopping at Karla and Vance's mobile tack store called Painted Pony, but I only remember some things.
Tara and Zen are kick-en it up a notch and Landed the 9th place overall for the FC division winning a pretty new halter.
Clair and Rocky between spooking fits made some great times and ended up 10th winning bell boots that matched the hay bag that Maddy won.
Sally and Linus where hot on Clair and Rocky's heals. Sally made some great rides and really started to apply sitting back through the turns. And made great strides in getting Linus settle into a more organized and quiet pace. This pair is really working to settle into just being able to ride. Really finding "the Zone".
Clair and Pharaoh turned in some respectable times and took 3rd overall for the Open Pony division. Winning a pair of blinged out Stirrups.
Paul brought Al, and although we did not get a chance to work on anything specific the exposure and the time Paul is putting into him teaching him to stand tied to the trailer, be left alone in the stall row, and mingle politely among the competitors is such a great start for a young horse.
Nice job everyone.
