Notes From Around the Arena
July 23rd - 29th , 2013
How I see it.
We had an action packed week.
Danielle and Judy handled the gypsy horses for Matt the shoer on Tuesday bright and early. While Jamila, Maddy, Clair and I took horses to Dr. Martin for acupuncture. Danielle and Judy took care of the herd grains and electrolytes and gave even managed to give a couple horses a bath to get rid of that crusty salt from sweating so much these days.
Wednesday found us bringing more horses to Dr. Martin. Ocho made strides in his treatments but the Dr. was very unhappy to see him so very overweight. Otherwise he seems sound and comfortable.
Thursday we did some early morning Mountain crashing. Then Jamila, Luna, Maddy, Clair and Judy loaded Frenchie, Pharaoh, and Cowboy into the trailer and away we went to the beach. This was Frenchie's first beach adventure and she was so very good. Judy had a great time working her in the sand playing leap frog. Pharaoh did some great sprints and played rabbit for Cowboy to chase. Super great for Cowboy and Maddy to hit that new speed and hold it. Cowboy out ran his allergies and did not even get winded.
Friday Katrina and Tikkun joined us for the Mountain Crashing, we were reminded why this is an advanced rider adventure as Tikkun decided from the very top of the mountain that he would just rather go home . . . NOW! Katrina did a great job getting him circled up and kicking until he came back up and all without toppling down off the edge.
The morning lesson was fun with Teresa, Danielle, Luna, Jamila and Judy working horses. Maddy and Clair worked on their pick up for the rescue race at the state show.
If you can make it down to the State Show, Rescue Race will be on Wednesday, it's where the rider runs down to the waiting person swings them up onto the back of the horse and the horse runs back to the finish line carrying both riders. Last year Maddy Clair and Cowboy finished just outside of the top ten.
Saturday we rode the Circle D Gymkhana in Vacaville, Judy/Frenchie, Clair/Pharaoh, Maddy/Cowboy. It was hot but with only 24 riders it went quick. We got to go to Tara's for a couple hours and jump in the pool. The we loaded the horses up and drove up to Rio Linda to be signed up and ready to ride by 8:00 that night. Frenchie and Pharaoh did great riding under the lights. We left cowboy at Dr. Martins to rest up. Pharaoh had a pony class of 4 and they were getting time within 10th of a second apart it was exciting. Clair and Pharaoh came away with the reserve high point.
We leave for the State Finals in Three days.
