Notes From Around the Arena
June 18th - 24th, 2013
We survived the first week of the Summer Schedule.
I want to make sure we thank Reynaldo for feeding our horses at 5:00 in the morning so they are ready for the 6:00 am lessons.
We have an ambitious group, Tuesday and Wednesday at 6:00 we had Sally, Katrina, and Clair, by 8:00 we also had Maddy and Danielle. Good Job guys.
Pony Camp is so much fun with Jamila and Luna working on team round penning. And exploring with their bareback seat and sidesaddle balance. Alex and Olivia Mazzucco also working bareback like pro's, at the walk and the trot.Teresa and Ocho joined in the fun and did very well bareback for the the first time. Clair did an amazing demonstration of team round penning with Pharaoh and Rocky, after teaching all the campers a little about how to free work two horses at the same time. We have our own Cavalia shaping up.
We left Friday for the last half of the Geek Show.
It was hot and I was spent from the schedule of the week. But everybody knew their place and set about getting the horses settled. The group went to dinner and I went to the hotel to rest up.
Saturday morning I slumped in and hid from the sun. Our group was on and ready to go. The energy was a little off and I thought it was me not feeling well. Deryn was my guardian throughout the day keeping me grounded and quiet. The events started and our group was a mess, "No Times" for three of our riders and then also in the next event. Only Zen and Tara were happy with the first event of the day. And then the show came to a stop. As it turned out, the course was not measured out correctly and we had to re-run the first two events. Boy was our group happy to get a do over. The day was hot. And now was going to be very long.
But the day went like days do, not worried or concerned about our individual struggles and triumphs.
Clair and Pharaoh hit a learning curve, right on time, 6 weeks before the state show. Just ride your horse. It was time to bust Pharaoh in public, on course, and Pharaoh was shocked! And defiant! A tough time for Clair and her Perfect Pony. People were coming up and asking whats wrong with Pharaoh. I was amazed to watch Clair work through identifying what he was, then why, and then come up with an action plan that made sense to the horse and continued to build toward the end result that she wanted.
Rocky held Pharaoh's torch, he stepped up to be the perfect pony.
Sally and Linus are having the same work ethic conversations as Pharaoh and Clair. So I had Sally run Linus in a bit with more stop to it for just a few classes. Just enough to get through that adrenaline override he was experiencing. It was great because it gave Sally opportunity to work on her balance and timing without having him so crazy fast. Within the first three events Linus straightened up and Sally was able to put him in the top 5 in every remaining event that day.
Maddy and Cowboy are splitting the times. For the Skill events they have bumped into the higher division. And for the speed events at this show they are within 2 seconds of the "time to get". Also perfect timing with 6 weeks to get the new speed evened out. And fine tune the skill events.
Tara and Zen are unflappable at this point steadily increasing timing and organization. Tara has started to develop an eye for what a good ride looks like in another rider. And can recognize that into the moment as she is riding her course. A very kool skill to have.
Judy! What to say about Judy and Frenchie. An adorable girl with her adorable horse. And they both seem to love the new saddle. Just from Saturday to Sunday Judy's accuracy and organization improved the times by 10 seconds. Really nice.
Macaroni and Clair and I did the lead line class and we even trotted a few steps. And Macaroni even won 2nd place.
Paul brought baby horse Al, who is just 18 months and as tall as Linus. Standing tied to the trailer, working in hand it the warm up arena, and just hanging out in all that chaos. Paul worked with a big towel tied to a rope and had Al drag it and step on and over it, got it tangled about his legs and let him work it through. Worked with the spray bottle and he was great.
OK so I know you are all wondering so here is how it ended up.
The Geek Show is called that because of the following prize list.
High Point: A Laptop Computer,
Reserve: Portable TV DVD player,
