Notes From Around the Arena
May 21st - 27th, 2013
How I see it.
Circle D gymkhana
(Gymkhana: timed events on horses back. Games or exercises for military horses.)
This was an especially fun show because the group surprised me with a birthday celebration that was great fun.
With a really cool 3d card of a white horse that was actually jumping out of the card. Many wonderful notes were jotted down by so many of you that were really sweet and felt great. Thank you.
We celebrated at Murillo's Mexican Restaurant.
When we arrived Judy and Danielle were decorating with streamers and we all got to wear sparkly party hats, We had hair color to spray into our hair.
I got to have a tiara and an It's my birthday button with a cool ribbon stick to wave about.
And they came bearing gifts. I got lots of fun and beautiful goodies.
So enough about me.
We caught horses in the dark at an uncivilized hour of the pre-dawn.
We got them loaded and away we went with Starbucks motivating the migration.
Our group piled in to Circle D horseman's parking area in time to get a good parking spot. And we set about getting ready for the day.
I galloped Frenchie out for a long while as she was pretty excited about the whole to do.
And then next was Zen.
Both horses settled nicely but were still chatty and a little heard bound.
Cowboy was ever the gentleman.
And Linus was enthusiastic.
Frenchie and Judy were really stepping up the bar, cantering in just about every event and trotting the turns.
Judy cut her times from last year by almost half.
Saturday pink sheet showed this team solidly in the top ten pressing hard on the top 5.
On Sunday Judy and Frenchie made it clear that they where here to be considered.
Skillfully earning the 2nd place win in Figure 8 flags, and a 3rd in Keyhole and a 3rd in Poles 1.
And again solid in the top ten all day.
Its been great to watch the developing teamwork between these two.
Zen and Tara, where should I start?
Should I tell how at the Friday night lesson just hours before our show, I over-faced this pair to a really solid jump.
Tara came off and landed hard. Her very first time falling off of any horse.
Ok so now you all know. And yes she brought cookies.
I was open to the fact that we would essentially start over with her riding confidence.
But that was not the case. Tara and Zen were top 5 on Saturday in all but 7th place, Speed Barrels which you really have to extend that canter.
And the triumph of their day was for the Hurry Scurry Event which is 3 jumps and one turn.
She told me later, "I just kept telling myself, I have done this lots of times before and I always stay on."
And so she did again, but also won the class. Very Brave Tara.
On Sunday Zen and Tara won Figure 8 Flags, Key hole, and speed ball.
Which earned enough points to win her very first Daily High Point.
Cowboy and Maddy are solid. They got right to work. No foolin', no buck or run away.
They are steadily leaving the FC division behind. But making a nice win as they go.
Wining the Daily High Point with 1st place wins in
Figure 8 Stake, Poles 2, Speed Barrel, and Big T.
And made the "Jump" into the A division in Hurry Scurry and Speed Ball.
Yep, she won hi-point with only 5 of 8 events. Nice!
Sunday was just as remarkable with 4 spots landed in the A division.
Look out State A Riders Cowboy and Maddy will be meeting you there.
I don't have paper work on Linus and Sally to jog my memory. They were only able to ride on Saturday.
But I know for a fact that Sally has improved her togetherness with Linus making for cleaner lines and a more organized ride.
Linus is a go to it guy. What ever information he has is enough for him to go for it.
Sally did a great job managing him through and they did very nicely, placing in the A division in all but a few events.
Clair was only available to ride on Sunday.
Rocky did well but took his time feeling things out so they only made the A division in three events, winning Keyhole. Clair kept him on track but did not make a big fuss about his need to take it all in.
Rocky was the big money winner for our group with a Jackpot win of $6.75.
Pharaoh making an elegant show of what his reining training is doing for him, was able to rate his speed and turn like he left something behind.
Pharaoh went home with the Reserve Daily High Point award.
Because this was a two day show and this arena does not have stabling available we imposed on Dr. Martin and she rented us her turn out field at her home office just minutes from the show arena.
Special thanks to Dr. Martin.
And we had a giant sleep over at Tara's house also just minutes away.
Thank you Tara!
I also wanted to enclose a message sent from Linda Struve:
Thank you so very much for such a special 'send-off' last Monday with the birthday card left here :))))))))) Loved seeing all the great wishes/signatures-- please thank everyone-- soooo special!!
"Had an amazing good time at the V6, just got back last night. Tassha was awesome!!!! We went and did the pole bending as they were set up in the arena, and she flew through them with me loving it.
We were doing it all and having a wonderful time at it!! She got many, many compliments and I'm so proud of her".
